BELLMONT HS ATHLETICS

The boys' cross country team came through with an impressive clutch performance to finish second in the NE8 Cross Country Meet Saturday at Columbia City High School. The host Eagles, as expected, won the title, but the Braves solidly beat the rest of the field. Columbia City scored 48 points, and the Braves scored 79 to the 96 of third-place Norwell. Four Braves earned all-conference honors. Hayden Whittenbarger led the way by finishing fifth in a career-best 16:58 to make the First Team. Hudson Krull (13th, 17:44) and Maddux Miller (14th, 17:45) made Second Team, while Harry Gunsett (15th, 17:45) made Honorable Mention.
